U.S. Air Force veteran enters race for Georgia's 14th Congressional District
Chattanooga Times Free Press - 1/22/2020
Jan. 22--Republican Ben Bullock, a small business owner and U.S. Air Force veteran, has announced he will run for Georgia's 14th congressional district seat.
Bullock dropped out of the crowded race for the state's 7th Congressional District and instead will run for the seat that is considered a conservative stronghold in rural Northwest Georgia.
Although Bullock lives in Gwinnett County, he said he will set up his campaign shop in Paulding County.
"I can think of no greater honor than to serve Northwest Georgia where my family has such deep roots," Bullock said in a statement. "For over 200 years, my family has lived, served in both the military and elected office, farmed, and operated small businesses in the 14th congressional district. To continue that legacy is a dream come true, and moving in that direction is where I truly believe that God is leading this campaign team."
Bullock is the founder of a real estate investment firm and graduated from the University of Georgia and Wharton Business School. In the Air Force, he served as an intelligence officer for 10 years -- four on active duty and six as a reserve.
Bullock said he hopes to use his military background and experience to strengthen the country's defense and to keep America safe.
Marjorie Greene, a business owner in Alpharetta, Clayton Fuller, a special assistant district attorney for Georgia's Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit and John Cowan, a neurosurgeon in Rome, are the three other candidates who have filed for May's primary.
Congressman Tom Graves, the senior-most Republican in Georgia's House delegation, said earlier this month he will not stand for re-election next year, triggering an unexpected battle to represent the deeply conservative district.
The 14th congressional district includes Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Floyd, Gordon, Haralson, Murray, Paulding and parts of Pickens, Polk, Walker and Whitfield counties.
