Suffield to make Sunrise Park pavilion handicapped-accessible

Journal Inquirer - 1/6/2022

Jan. 6—SUFFIELD — The town is in the planning stages of a project to make the pavilion at Sunrise Park meet the standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Facilities Manager Chris Matejek says the goal is to have the improvements completed in time for the summer.

The improvements to the pavilion will include building a new portion of deck, accessible by a new, larger ramp. The doorways into the pavilion will be widened to meet ADA standards too.

As part of that process a few trees will be removed in front of the pavilion.

Matejek said he also hopes to make the deck on the pond side of the pavilion accessible too, by making it all one level, as opposed to its current two tiers.

The paths leading to the pavilion and the path along the pond will be smoothed out and covered with crushed stone, he said.
