BRIEF: Electrocuted iguana knocks out power at Florida nursing home; 20 patients relocated

Sept. 29--An iguana knocked out power to a nursing home in Lauderdale Lakes on Friday, sparking a temporary evacuation of 20 patients due to air conditioning deficiencies.
The nursing home, Palms Care Center at 3370 NW 47th Terr., switched to generator power after the iguana interfered with a nearby power line, causing a power pole fire.
With only half of the nursing home being effectively cooled by the generator-powered AC, the Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue relocated patients to the cooler end of the building. Overcrowding eventually made evacuation to nearby hospitals necessary, although fire rescue said those patients would be returned to the nursing home by Saturday.
"None of the patients removed were in distress," BSFR said in a statement to the media.
Government records show the nursing home is licensed to operate 120 beds.
