Disabilities board seeks representatives

The Virginia Board for People with Disabilities has two board vacancies and is seeking a representative of the transit industry and a person with a developmental disability.

The board serves as the Developmental Disabilities Council, an advocacy group that addresses the needs of people with developmental disabilities as established under the federal Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act and the Virginians with Disabilities Act.

Since 1992, the board has been an executive branch state agency within the state Department of Health and Human Resources. The board has autonomy over the use of its federal funding and the hiring of its staff.

It advises the governor, the secretary of Health and Human Resources, federal and state legislators and other groups on issues related to people with disabilities in Virginia.

To be considered for one of the vacancies, submit the required online application at https://solutions.virginia.gov/OASYS. Those who have applied in the past do not need to fill out a new application.

For more information, visit https://www.vaboard.org/aboutvbpd.htm#appointment. Help with completing the application is available by calling the Secretary of the Commonwealth's Office at 804-786-2441, or use the TTY/TDD line at 800-828-1120.
