My Advice to You: Linda Moore

The Goochland Gazette - 6/18/2018

This week, the Gazette continues our series in which we ask county residents to share the best piece of advice they have ever been given.

Back in August 2005, my son knew many young people with disabilities who live in the areas devastated by Hurricane Katrina. From this concern "Are You Ready? Disaster Preparation for People with Disabilities" project was formed. It provided information on how to assemble your own emergency supply kit. I did not know then how valuable the workshops and training would be to me today.

Since 2010, I have been an insulin dependent diabetic. What this means that I need my insulin daily to survive.

My advice to anyone who has a medical condition that requires medications or therapy to survive to have an emergency plan and go bag with supplies.

I am lucky that there is lots of information on what to include in my go bag through a list called "My Diabetes Emergency Plan" that was available on-line. I put my go bag together for not only me but for my family. Don't wait you never know when the next disaster will strike.
