The Cedars keeps on providing for Mac with new unit

Nov. 09--The Cedars has provided quality care for the elderly in McPherson County for 125 years. The newest addition to their location in McPherson will better serve those suffering from memory loss.
After seeing a clear need for those suffering with dementia and memory loss, The Cedars leadership team decided it was time to assist those suffering with a new care center.
"We did a couple of different market studies and it said in our strategic planning in 2020, the city of McPherson and McPherson County needed more beds designed for memory care and dementia," said Bob Baldwin, vice president of marketing at The Cedars.
The McPherson Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for the new area on Nov. 8.
The Cedars offers independent living for couples or individuals starting at age 60, assisted living for light assistance while maintaining individuality, health care living with comfortable surroundings and compassionate caregivers with a nursing station at each neighborhood location, memory care living for those suffering with dementia and other memory issues, rehabilitation services for those recovering after surgery, a conference center, a cafe and a personal centered care.
Since the start, the vision for the new area has been forward-thinking.
"We're very excited just the fact that it was designed from day one the architect with all the latest techniques, the new area should help ease the staff and help their ability to provide for these residents."
The new area will aid those with dementia and memory loss by supplying 12 new beds to fit their needs specifically.
Each room has a specific color and a box containing items that belong to the resident, signaling that the room is theirs. Attached to the rooms are private bathrooms and showers.
The rooms are surrounded by a common area where residents can enjoy spending time with others, doing simple daily activities and more.
"Theres also an outdoor area, which is contained that they have access to that no one else can come and go through, so they're protected in that way," Baldwin said.
The Cedars received a grant to assist in educating their staff to the fullest of their abilities to aid with these residents.
"Everyone will be trained specifically to work in this area, it takes a special effort to be able to work with these folks, so we want everyone to be educated," he said.
