Woman pleads guilty to charges, police say admits she stole pills from nursing home

Idaho Press-Tribune - 9/15/2017

CALDWELL — A Karcher Estates nurse entered a plea deal Tuesday in 3rd District Court after she was arrested in July on suspicion of stealing drugs from the nursing home and destroying evidence.

Jennifer Talich, 32, pleaded guilty to felony of possession of a controlled substance. As part of the plea deal, all other charges were dropped.

She previously faced a felony charge of destruction of evidence, a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance, three misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance and one misdemeanor theft charge.

According to police, Talich reported hydrocodone pills missing from a resident’s room to an employee at Karcher Estates. When the pills couldn’t be located, the employee wondered if Talich had taken them, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Police questioned Talich in July and upon searching her purse, say they found seven types of prescription drugs packaged in clear plastic bags. The document states hydrocodone pills were located in her purse in the original packaging from the pharmacy.

According to the affidavit, after locating the drugs, police say Talich admitted to stealing the hydrocodone pills prescribed to a resident. Talich told police she was stealing hydrocodone from residents at the facility for the past six months, according to the document. Ten more stolen hydrocodone pills were located in a brown bag in the trunk of her car, according to the document.

Talich’s sentencing is Nov. 20.
