Dinner Tonight presents Diabetes Edition

Alice Echo-News Journal - 7/20/2017

Fast food is a quick alternative for a meal at home, especially a family dinner after a long day of work.

However, fast food is rarely a healthy option.

On Tuesday, Aug. 1 at the KC Hall on 1000 Cecilia Street Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office will have Dinner Tonight Healthy Cooking School.

During the session will focus on managing diabetes by eating well at home instead of eating out.

According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 29 million Americans are living with diabetes, and 86 million are living with pre-diabetes, a serious health condition that increases a person's risk of type 2 diabetes and other chronic diseases.

People who suffer with type 1 diabetes must take insulin for life to survive and for individuals with type 2 diabetes a healthy lifestyle including healthy eating, regular physical activity, and medicines to lower blood sugar can help prevent or delay complications.

The session will have cooking demonstration to educate the public.

On the dinner menu for the night is shrimp cilantro tostada, calabacita, Spanish rice, Mexican hot chocolate and cheesecake cups.

The doors open at 5 p.m., exhibits and refreshments 5:15 p.m. till 6 p.m., the program and dinner starts at 6 p.m.

Reserved tables are available and individuals tickets cost $20. For questions or table reservations email elaine.montemayo-gonzalez@ag.tamu.edu.
