Halifax Health?Hospice will observe National healthcare Decisions Week, April 16-22, with free educational and informational activities for residents throughout Volusia County.

Sometimes called an advance directive or living will, an advance care plan is a way for a person to plan ahead for their medical care.

Activities include:

?National Healthcare Decisions Day, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, April 17, at Hospice Southeast Volusia Care Center, 4140 S. Ridgewood Ave., Edgewater.

Hospice will distribute free copies of Five Wishes, an easy to use legal document that allows adults of all ages to plan how they want to be cared for in case they become seriously ill.

Memories in the Making

Memories in the Making is a free art program that provides people experiencing early-stage Alzheimer's and dementia with a forum to express themselves through watercolor painting and drawing.

The group will meet from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Mondays, April 17 and 24, at the New Smyrna Beach Library, 1001 South Dixie Freeway.

Caregivers are welcome to attend and participate. No art experience is needed. Reservations are required. Space is limited.

Program presented in partnership with the Alzheimer's Association.

Parkinson's Group sets inaugural meeting

The New Smyrna Beach Parkinson's Group will host its first meeting at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, at Lexington Place, 301 S. Myrtle Ave.

The guest speaker will be Jeffery R. Berner of Professional Physical Therapy and Associates.

Light refreshments will be served. The group will meet the third Wednesday of each month, and will be facilitated by Medical Services of America.

Medicare 101 class

A free Medicare education class will be at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 19, at the Resource Center in New Smyrna Beach, 629 N. Dixie Freeway.

Instructor will be a local Florida Licensed health insurance adviser.

Diabetes Support Group

Florida Hospital New Smyrna will host a free diabetes support group at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, in the Schildecker conference room, 401 Palmetto St., New Smyrna Beach.

The group provides open discussion, as well as a question-and-answer section. It is open to the public and attendees are welcome to bring someone for support.

Try Qigong at the NSB library

Ann Minoff will lead free, one-hour Qigong classes at 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays in April at the New Smyrna Beach Regional Library, 1005 S. Dixie Freeway.

Ms. Minoff, a certified teacher at Spring Forest Qigong, has spent the past nine years integrating the principles into her daily life.

Tools to quit smoking

A free Tools to Quit Smoking class will meet from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 29, at Florida Hospital Fish Memorial.

There will be free patches, lozenges, or gum and free quit plan, workbook, water bottle and stress ball.

Parkinson's Association to host "Music as Medicine"

The Parkinson's Association will present "Music as Medicine" from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, at Bishops Glen Auditorium, 900 LPGA Blvd., Holly Hill.

Attendees will be exposed to assorted styles of recorded and live music with some special guest performers.

Vince Kinsler, executive director of the Parkinson Association of Greater Daytona Beach will facilitate.

The program will also include a brief presentation on a unique resource offered at Bishops Glen specifically beneficial to people with Parkinson's disease.
