Area man charged with rape of mentally disabled woman

Herald-Standard - 4/13/2017

A Marianna man is facing felony charges after an investigation revealed he was the father of a baby born to a woman with intellectual disabilities.

Dominike Francis Tedrow, 45, was arraigned Tuesday afternoon and charged with rapes that allegedly occurred four times.

The woman went to the emergency room in December of 2015 for abdominal pain, and doctors discovered she was pregnant. She gave birth the following year, and an investigation revealed Tedrow was the father, police said.

The Herald-Standard does not identify those who allege they are victims of rape.

She told investigators the assaults hurt and she did not want him to do it. She said the assaults made her cry, according to the affidavit of probable cause filed in his case.

The woman has an IQ of 62. Because she has "profound cognitive impairment and very limited insight," she "does not know the potential ramifications and consequences of sexual activity and does not have the capacity to make informed decisions regarding consenting to sexual activity," the affidavit said.

Tedrow is charged with rape of a mentally disabled person, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a person with a mental disability, and two counts of sexual assault, all felonies.

He is free from jail after he posted 10 percent of a $35,000 bond shortly after his arrest. He was arraigned Tuesday afternoon by Magisterial District Judge Curtis Thompson.

His preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled for 9:30 a.m.April 19 before Thompson.
