Construction on NP roads begins with sidewalk cuts

The North Platte Telegraph - 4/8/2017

Crews in North Platte are preparing for street overlay projects by doing the sidewalk cuts.

City Engineer Tom Werblow said that before overlay projects begin later this month, contractors with Western Engineering will ensure that sidewalks meet the latest Americans with Disabilities Act standards.

People who are visually impaired can often tell a difference in street color or texture, so updated sidewalk slopes will include detectable warning straps, Werblow said.

Crews will also add a different texture to the intersections' surface.

Werblow said the work closed a chunk of Willow Street between B and 1st streets, but that section reopened Friday. The intersection of Oak and Francis streets should be back in service next week.

Work is also underway on Willow Street from Eighth Street to Rodeo Road and from Leota to Sixth streets. During the week of April 24, crews will mill down asphalt on those streets and replace it. The work is expected to take three to four weeks, depending on weather, how well equipment operates and the delivery of materials, Werblow said.
