SKIL free annual Customer Appreciation Picnic slated for Oct.9 in Fredonia

Cherokee County News-Advocate (Colombus, KS) - 10/6/2015

FREDONIA - The Fredonia SKIL office will host its free annual Customer Appreciation Picnic from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Oct. 9, at the First Assembly of God Church in Fredonia.

The church is located at 1102 Washington St. In keeping with the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on July 26, 1990, this year's picnic will be themed "Everyone Has a Part in the ADA."

SKIL is a Kansas-based independent living center that serves people with disabilities. Headquartered in Parsons, it has branch offices in Fredonia and other Kansas locations.

The entire community is invited to the free picnic, held each year by SKIL offices to show appreciation to its customers and to thank the communities SKIL serves. The popular annual event will include hot dogs, chips, cookies and more.

"There will be lots of door prizes, gift certificates and bags," Fredonia SKIL employee Melanie Burnett said. "We hope to see a lot of people in the community come out."

Fredonia SKIL employee Ed Viers said "The picnics give the organization an opportunity to express its appreciation for the people we are privileged to serve. We appreciate the support of the various businesses and individuals in the community whose donations help make this possible."
