BRIEF: Medicare premiums to rise for some
Albuquerque Journal (NM) - 9/1/2015
Aug. 31--The Medicare Rights Center, a national nonprofit consumer service group, is advising that some people with Medicare Part B may see their premiums increase for 2016.
Medicare is the federal insurance program for those 65 and older. Medicare Part A, which covers hospital care, skilled nursing-facility care, hospice and home health services, is premium-free. Part B, which covers costs such as lab tests, doctor visits, wheelchairs and ambulance services, involves a premium that is now $104.90 per month.
About 30 percent of those who have Part B will see their monthly premium increase to $159.30 in 2016. That will affect people who enroll in Medicare during 2016, those who are covered by Medicare but do not collect Social Security benefits and some high-income beneficiaries, according to the 2015 Medicare Trustees report.
