National Nursing Home Week celebrated locally

May 20--TIFTON -- Golden Living Center and the Rehabilitation Center of South Georgia celebrated National Nursing Home Week last week with a theme for each day.

At Golden Living, employees dressed up Monday like a clown for Circus Day. Residents enjoyed cotton candy, popcorn and Circus Peanuts, as well as bobbing for doughnuts. Tuesday was Western Day, during which residents were served hot dogs. Wednesday was Decade Day, and residents enjoyed coke floats. Thursday was Dance Party Day, during which employees wore their dancing clothes. Also, the Zaxby's mascot stopped by and danced with the residents. Friday was Senior Olympics Day, and residents participated in various activities. Bethany Hospice volunteered to serve food.

At the Rehab Center of South Georgia, Monday was Super Bingo Day, during which residents were served ice cream from Dairy Queen. Tuesday was Hollywood Day, and employees dressed up like their favorite celebrities. They had a best costume contest, and Penny Hancock played the piano for the residents, who were served shrimp cocktails and cheese straws. Wednesday was 80s Day, and residents enjoyed pizza rolls. Thursday was Fiesta Day, and residents were treated to virgin margaritas and pizza and enjoyed music by local band The Carpenters. Friday was Luau Cookout Day with music by DJ Ronnie Dunn.

Employee Carl Vines won the T-shirt design contest.

The Rehab Center's sponsors were the Sylvia Barr Center, Southern Care Hospice, Georgia Home Health Care, Hospice Care Options, Pruitt Health Hospice, Halcyon Hospice, Uniform Works, Chick-fil-A, Stafford Wendy's on 20th Street and Julie Hunt.
