Applications sought for council members

Jamestown Sun, The (ND) - 4/1/2015

April 01--The North Dakota State Council on Developmental Disabilities is accepting applications now through April 17 from individuals willing to serve on the council and actively work to enhance the quality of life of people with developmental disabilities.

"We encourage people with developmental disabilities, parents or guardians of children with developmental disabilities, and immediate family members or guardians of adults with developmental disabilities and other interested people to apply to fill the open seat on the council. This is a great opportunity to become involved," said Cheryl Hess, council executive director.

Hess said the council is a planning and advisory body. It provides grant funding and supports efforts to increase employment opportunities and community inclusion for people with developmental disabilities, and to empower people with disabilities and their families to access needed services and supports.

She said people from across the state are invited to apply. Preference will be given to applicants from the Devils Lake, Jamestown and Williston regions because those regions are currently not represented on the 20-member council.

The governor appoints council members to serve four-year terms. Members are expected to participate in quarterly meetings and are reimbursed for expenses to participate in council meetings and activities.

Application materials and information are available online at http://www.ndcpd.org/SCDD/ in the membership area, and by contacting Hess at (701) 328-4847, chess@nd.gov, or 919 S. 7th St., Suite 503, Bismarck, ND 58501.
