ANP prepares for movie premier

Portsmouth Daily Times, The (OH) - 10/21/2014

Oct. 21--Ability Network Productions (ANP) will debut its latest project, a short film entitled "Dream Scenes," on Nov. 1 at the Friends Center in Portsmouth.

ANP is a group of local people, with and without disabilities, who have come together to create performing arts with a message. The organization isn't officially affiliated with the Scioto County Board of Developmental Disabilities (SCBDD), but most of the volunteers from ANP are involved with the SCBDD in different ways.

"The Scioto County Board of Developmental Disabilities (SCBDD) is very supportive of ANP, but the group is completely independent of SCBDD," Margaret Compton, secretary of the superintendent of SCBDD, said. "A lot of us with the board volunteer and work in effort of ANP, such as paying for transportation to get folks to the filming and more. There might be a lot of staff involved, but there is still a lot of community members involved with ANP. It is really a great organization that brings the school, the community and many individuals together."

The work ANP completes is also a wonderful learning experience for the individuals with developmental disabilities.

"It also gives folks with DD an opportunity to experience the arts first hand, which is really important to them," Compton added.

Laura Womack, writer of the movie and director of ANP, describes the film as a story about bullying and being kind to others. In the film, a character is undergoing bullying and slowly learns not to take the things people say to heart.

Womack has been with the group for five years, where she has directed two plays and the recent film.

"A film is easier, because it was hard to get a lot of people together at one time," Womack said. "We were able to film different parts and then put it together by doing a movie this time, which couldn't be done with a play."

The fun kicks-off Nov. 1 with red carpet arrivals of the film's stars beginning around 4:30 p.m. Inside activities begin at 5 p.m. and should conclude around 7 p.m.

Teresa Storch, singer and songwriter, has music featured in the movie. She will be in attendance of the premier and will perform for guests.
