CUSTOM ADAPTATION PURPOSE: To enable a tall parent to push a child's wheelchair. The existing pish handles were sawed off the chair and new ferrules were fixed inside the exposed tubes with Loc-tite. Two new L-shaped handles were fashioned from metal tubing and one end of each was fitted into the new ferrules. ---- PROTOTYPE --------- PURPOSE: Side by Side is an accessory for the wheelchair which allows a friend, relative or caregiver to push the chair while walking beside rather than behind it. Called Side by Side, the prototype device is designed to enable eye contact to encourage conversation. This design keeps the wheelchair from turning on the spot when pushed.
